Cartmel Priory

Founded in 1188 by William Marshall, Earl of Pembroke for Augustinian Canons. It was spared at the Dissolution because it was also the Parish Church. Most important building the area, dominating the small village of Cartmel. Photo: James Rostron Riley Album 1898.
