St John the Evangelist Church, Radcliffe New Road, Radcliffe, in 1975; after standing empty, forlorn and vandalised for about two years, it was demolished in 1976. The parish was joined to St Thomas' Church, in the town centre. Dwindling congregations forced the diocesan authorities to close St John's, although there were no serious structural faults with the building - it just seemed unwanted.
