HRS 1515 Coalmining, pitbrow women in cabin Gibfield
This is a fascinating photograph. Look at the faces and body language of the women. They are clearly fatigued and miserable. They are taking presumably a brew of tea from their cans. The 'cabin' is makeshift. The lady looking left is seated on a plank. The lady on the right is watching the photographer. The photo was taken deliberately in an un-posed mode, from my own experience I know people can be very self-conscious, and a shot when they are not expecting it can sometimes be the only way. It would have been interesting to know their reaction one second after the flash-powder had gone off! KH
