HRS 302 MBBC, Millstone on canalside Hinds, Bury 1971
Hinds Mill was sandwiched between the River Irwell to the left of the picture and the canal to the left out of shot. It was a logwood grinding mill for many years, logwood being a south American timber with peculiar propoerties- but capable of producing lilac, violet blue and black dyestuffs. The logwood had first to be ground and the picture shows a runner stone from the logwood grinding mill on the towpath of the canal.
