Hind's Mill was situated on the banks of the Manchester, Bolton and Bury Canal. It got its water supply for its water-wheel and later for its water-turbine from the River Irwell which is close by. The picture shows the cast iron support beam holding up the floor over the feeder or goit. In the background of the picture is a stopping or dam to prevent water from draining back under the mill from the feeder. The mill ground logwood to make dye-stuffs for the early textile industry.
