HRS 9884 Great Asby gill, dry river bed potholes L1180778
Asby Gill is a classic stream course with (even in wet weather) water disappearing into the limestone and resurging again downstream. The photo shows a classic pothole (left centre) formed by water action revolving stone debris when water levels were great during the meltwater stage of the last Ice Age event. At the foor of the image water can be seen emerging from below the limestone.
