Asby Gill is a classic stream course with (even in wet weather) water disappearing into the limestone and resurging again downstream. The photo shows a totally dry section of the river bed. There is water upstream and below this section of the river, the water having disappeared underground. The water course is only reinstated during heavy storms or extremely long rain events.
