HRS 2162 Whitehead & Poole

The machine seems to work on the principle of a rocking arm which in turn moves a device within the metal boxes. The appearance of right hand side of the rocking arm suggests it would have been connected to a reciprocal motion of some kind, perhaps on line-shafting.

The white background is obtained by the photographer painting a black lacquer on the negative covering the unwanted areas.
