HRS 2151 Whitehead & Poole Stenter & SE

A steam-driven stentering machine. Stentering is the process in textile finishing where the cloth is held at either side to retain its width. Stentering is the truly industrial version of tentering (qv) where textiles, especially woollen textiles were stretched on tenterframes in the open air to dry.

Notice the timber-strutted roof timbers.
