HRS 3907 Radcliffe, Nob End sandstone in banks of Irwell 2005
The main outcrop of the Nob End sandstone enabled quarrying to take place for many local buildings including probably Radcliffe Tower. Curiously, around quarter of a mile upstream from the quarry outcrop the same sandstone sequence is repeated and clearly exposed in the river bank next to the Pioneer Mill footbridge, yet appears not to have accessed.
