In 1974 as part of BBC Radio Manchester's new approach to educational radio in association with the WEA, I explored a shaft at the Wishing Well Restaurant in New Brown Street. The shaft led into a chamber cut out of the sandstone. The shaft and chamber were one of many of Manchesters fresh-water wells and cisterns. The site is now lost, buried beneath the Arndale Centre. KH Click here to see a detailed description of entering the underground chamber on a short video presentation on You Tube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-OrJq0oJ6Y&feature=share&list=UUxNVGAIh8cokjl555I7xWag
