Concretion in sandstone at Quarry Flat south quarry. It is thought that the concretion was mistakenly identified by John Bolton in 1869 page 171 "Geological Fragments of Furness & Cartmel" as .. " a fossil tree embedded in a cliff". Maybe he thought it was a Carboniferous tree root?
