Holker, Quarry Flat concretion Photo one

Concretion in sandstone at Quarry Flat south quarry. It is thought that the concretion was mistakenly identified by John Bolton in 1869 Page 171 "Geological Fragments of Furness & Cartmel" as .. " a fossil tree embedded in a cliff". Maybe he thought it was a Carboniferous tree root?
