HRS 3781 Huddersfield Narrow Canal, Ashton under Lyne area c1967

The width of the canal is indeed narrow as you can see in the photo of the lock entrance at Ashton-under-Lyne. Dating back to the 18th C the canal links Lancashire and Yorkshire by a 5,500 yard tunnel beneath the Pennines.br/br/The building at the back of the photo is a cotton mill.
