HRS 1438 Coal mining Air doors and little trappers

The illustration shows a coal haulage road in a coal mine. The child on the left would wait often in total darkness until they heard the sound of the coal truck coming along. The child operated the wooden door which was used as a way of diverting air-flow in the ventilation of the mine.
