HRS 8615 Clapham, Clapdale grotto

According to the Ingleboprough Estate guide to their Nature Trail, the grotto was built 'to provide employment in the early 19th century' and to provide shelter and a viewpoint. It is a curious, if not ugly structure, made from the local limestone. The manner in which the roof was formed is strongly reminiscent of similar structures in lime kilns, which is, perhaps, not surprising.
