Roger Fenton was a pioneer English photographer born at Crimble Hall, Heywood in Lancashire. He was a pioneer in photography famous for his work photographing the Royal Family,and recording the Crimean War. (Photo) Notice the bleakness of the 'Valley in the shadow of death' and the numerous cannon balls strewn around.
He also excelled taking many photos of North Wales, the Lake District and the area around Stonyhurst College in the Ribble Valley.
