St Paul's Church, New Cross, Manchester, occupied an odd shaped site on the Oldham Road between Cable Street and Addington Street. It was built between 1876 and 1878 to a design by Sir. George Gilbert Scott, although he died before the church was completed and his son John Oldrid Scott was responsible for completing the project. The church was closed and demolished in the late 1970's as the area was re-developed. When this photograph was taken in 1976, a "barrow-boy" was still carting and delivering his goods up the Oldham Road.
