Manchester, Gorton, Our Lady of Mercy & St Thomas of Canterbury 1977 interior

The ornate rood screen and nave of Our Lady of Mercy & St.Thomas of Canterbury, Gorton, Manchester. This anglo-catholic CE church was designed by the famous architect Sir Walter Tapper. It opened for worship in November 1927, the last service was held towards the end of 2000, as the church membership declined rapidly, and couldn't afford to keep it open. The church is a listed building and still stands, now used by an evangelical church organisation. This photograph was taken in 1977.
