The Horwich Locomotive works opened in 1885 for the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway. It constructed and repaired steam locomotives, as well as repairing wagons and other rolling stock. It also had a spring-making section. Eventually the site closed in 1983 and is now in part the Horwich Business Park. Photo Ref: 1977.79.1 imageFile_480

Notes: I visited the works in 1961 and there were few locomotives being repaired at that time, & by 1964 locomotive work had ceased. I recall seeing many wagons under repair. The site had a narrow gauge railway system and one the locomotives "Wren" was on display inside the works. KH
