A posed photograph of cotton spinners from Warth Mill near Bury. It looks as though it was taken actually in the mill, notice the flagstone floor with the characteristic patterns of Rossendale flags. The mill went on to have a fascinating history in becoming a temporary camp for German 'aliens' including large numbers of Jews during the Second World War. Amongst the prisoners were many brilliant, scientists, artists, academics and others who were later transferred to the Isle of Man. Later the site became the home of McPherson's paints.
