The Backbarrow gorge at the southern end of the English Lake District carries the River Leven that drains England's longest lake, Windermere. During the December floods of 2015 the swollen river covered the ancient stone bridge at Backbarrow and flooded an adjacent hotel. The Gallery shows the extent of the flood and how the river was partially diverted creating a cascade into the lower section below the bridge. It is always difficult to convey the power of floods and the noise. There is a short video showing the river Leven in full force at the beginning of the Photo Gallery or you can watch it on You Tube by Clicking https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sRA0dsvCjF0
