Bacup (pronounced bay-kup) is a small industrial town at the head of the Rossendale Valley in Lancashire. It grew during the industrial revolution into a 'town of stone' - local quarrying was a major industry, there was also cotton, woollens, shoe manufacturing, farming and small-scale coal mining.
