HRS 745 Manchester Victoria Station façade July 2005 Manchester Victoria Station replaces an earlier station at Hunt's Bank in Manchester opened in 1839 for the Manchester & Leeds Railway and designed by George Stephenson. Victoria Station was to become one the largest passenger stations in the UK, with 'the longest platform' Victoria to Exchange Station a distance of 2194 feet. The station was built partly on a graveyard and over the River Irk.
