In 1887 Manchester (actually Old Trafford) was the venue for the Manchester Jubilee Exhibiton. The vast exhibition hall attracted over 1,000,000 visitors. It was constructed from acres of glass and "cast iron gas pipes". When the building was eventually pulled down the pipework was sold off. Surprisingly the there is still one building that exists in 2013 that was reconstructed using the pipework. Barnbrook Engineering in Bury allowed myself, & Keith Gale UK authority on iron and steel for English Heritage, to go into their roof-space in 1976 to see the structures.
