The current Art Deco Midland Hotel replaced others on the site, built in 1933 it was designed by architect Oliver Hill and sculpture for the interior by Eric Gill. It is an outstanding building restored to its former glory by Urban Splash with architects Union North, Northwest Regional Development Agency and Lancaster City Council, opening its doors in 2008.
