Wardley Hall is close to the main motorway yet it holds a sinister secret - a skull. It has been attributed to Roger Downes who was killed in London and also to Ambrose Barlow who executed in Lancaster in 1641. The skull was actually stolen in 1930, and gained national publicity before being returned.
