"This one is posed for the photographer during summer. Some of the fishermen would do put on their oil skins and sou'westers even on the sunniest of days. This could be a pre-war shot showing Dad 0n the left-hand side, and grandad on the right - who normally ran the other way if Mr Camera-man was about. The net is a whammel net, the old flax type, taken out of the boats at weekend and dried on the poles. I had to go down and clean the nets on a Saturday morning to clear the seaweed out and shake out the sand. The men always stood on the lea side of the drying nets to keep out of the wind."
