Orthocone nautiloid - patterning

The fossil shows a globular-like patterning in its interior especially along its length. It is thought that the fossil was occupied post mortem by the tiny brachiopod Orbiculoidea. (SEE Paul Seldon, John Nudds, Evolution of fossil ecosystems p47 on the occurrence and colonisation of Orbiculoidea around orthocone nautiloids)
