Cwmorthin is a complex of slate quarries most below ground. It is an extraordinary place with many slate quarrying relics and ruins. Slate was transported by tramway down to nearby Tanygrisiau and then by the unique (and now preserved) narrow gauge railway - the Ffestiniog Railway - to Portmadoc. (porthmadog)
