HRS 3629 Bury Castle Dig 1974 Drill Hall in rear

In 1974 the remains of Bury Castle actually a 'fortified' manor house manor house was built by Sir Thomas Pilkington – lord of the manors of Bury and Pilkington in 1482.

The site shown in the photo has now been landscaped and the features of the excavation preserved.
