The famous radio star Jimmy Clitheroe "The Clitheroe" Kid was a member of the extended Pye family. As Michael Pye recounts "I don't think any collection of old photographs of the town would be complete without the Clitheroe Kid himself all 4' 3'' of him. Born in 1921 on then Wilkin Street which is now Highfield Road at his 'Grandma Pyes' house to his Mum Emma Clitheroe nee Pye and Father Bob Clitheroe. Only days after being born the family moved to live in Blacko where he grew up. Jimmy Clitheroe starred in many films,TV and radio programmes. His radio series,'The Clitheroe Kid' ran for 15 years from 1957 to 1972. He starred in films with people such as George Formby and Vera Lynn. ...
