HRS 1684 Affetside Cross Image c1920s

Affetside is a village on the moors above Bolton in Lancashire. The so-called cross is something of an enigma, suggestions vary from it being a marker for Pilgrims, a village cross, or even some association with the nearby Roman Road. The party in the photograph appear to be enjoying a day out.
