Today's photographers owe a great debt of gratitude to Mr Driffield and Dr Hurter and their pioneering work in providing reliable data for the exposure of film and plates to light. Vero Charles Driffield was born in Prescot Lancashire and associated with Dr Ferdinand Hurter who settled in Cheshire. They worked for Gaskell Deacon of Widnes later the United Alkali Company.

NEW BOOKLET: Dr Ronald M Callender FRPS has researched their story for many years and has recently published a short illustrated account of their lives and work, as a tribute to these remarkable men. The publication "Mr Driffield and Dr Hurter" is available directly from Dr Callender for £5.50p including UK post. All enquiries please directly to Dr Callender at [email protected]
