A 18th century bleachworks with 19th century development. East facing elevation of building and chimney. The works was situated on the edge of the River Irwell. The works still had its 18th century counting house, weighbridge, manager's house, & engine house. Part of the bleachcroft was built over the river to take advantage of the water to wash bleached cloth. There had been a waterwheel, smithy and even a library for the workers.
