HRS 4371 Kearsley, Tunnel under railway 1973

The tunnel beneath the Bolton to Manchester Railway line carries a road and always carried a road. What is interesting about it is that it was constructed by Jesse Hartley, better known for his work at the Albert Docks in Liverpool, and is in every respect except for water, a canal tunnel design.
The chimneys visible in the background were part of Kearsley Power Station.
