Britannia Bridge, Bangor 1966

The southern portal of Stephenson's tubular railway bridge of 1850 for the Chester and Holyhead Railway with its famous lions.
Stephenson's construction (the design credit was also claimed by Fairbairn) led to the box-girder in use today as basis for buildings, container ships and indeed the containers themselves. Photo: Personal thanks to Angus McCulloch for his permission to use the photo.
