This a representative image from the Cockey Moor Coalfield Gallery, a coalfield that was worked from at least the Medieval Period. The Image HRS 1709. The raised banks around the circular pit suggest a horse-whim has been used. There are traces of split coal on the ground. Possibly an 18th century coal pit.
