HRS 256 MBBC, Burrs feeder aqueduct over Irwell 1970s
The feeder channel for the Manchester, Bolton and Bury Canal at Elton crosses the river Irwell at Burrs on a brick-built aqueduct dating back to the beginning of the 19th century. The mill in the centre rear of the picture is Burrs Mill which was used as a bleach works in the Lancashire textile industry until the second world war when it was used as a prisoner of war camp for Italian prisoners.
