Stone weir on the river Irwell at Burrs near Bury. The weir constructed at the beginning of the 19th century supplied water for the Manchester, Bolton and Bury Canal via a feeder channel to Elton Reservoir. Water was also supplied to a local mill. The picture shows the stone structure of the weir in 1973. KH
