This badly scratched rare photo was found at the bottom of a box in an attic! It shows Bolton Great Moor Street Station in the very early 1960s. Notice the curved platforms and water columns supplying water for steam locomotives. It was an early railway with the original line opening in 1831 by the Bolton and Leigh Railway. This is just one year after the opening of the Liverpool and Manchester Railway. On "1st August 1871 ... the new Bolton Great Moor Street station was built in a classic 'Italian' style". The Station was closed in 1954.
