"North West Sound Archive, based at Clitheroe Castle, Lancashire, records, collects and preserves sound recordings of the life, character, history and traditions of North West England.Currently the Archive holds over 140,000 recordings relating to all aspects of north west life. We preserve oral history recordings, local radio programmes, sounds of the region, music and dialect poetry - in fact anything that can be recorded. The Sound Archive undertakes it's own recording programme as well as assisting groups who wish to make their own recordings. It offers a safe storage environment for the preservation of the region's sound collections. The Archive also has a small collection of photographs relating to the oral history collections. Sadly, The North West Sound Archive officially closed at the beginning of 2015 because of funding cuts. The Collections are held by various Archive Record Offices at Preston, Manchester and Liverpool.
