There is some discussion about the loose rounded material on Birkrigg Common. The site was covered in ice during the Ice Age - could the pebbles and boulders arrived with the meltwater? Were the stones brought up from the shore of Morecambe Bay for some reason? The stones appear generally more angular than beach deposits - could they have been worked? Why? If you the answer or suggest an answer please send us an email!
