HRS 1444 Coal man with pick

The Report says "Represents a man working in one of the thicker seams of coal where they generally kneel on one knee whilst at work. I have however, seen the collier sitting on small stools ... where the height of the seem admitted of it" That method was still used in the 1920s in the Lancashire coalfield.
