HRS 1441 Coal two men digging and sieving

The illustration shows two men, one shoveling the loose coal brought down by the colliery (the man with the pick in another illustration) It is riddled or sieved. It suggests they were working a poor thin seam where it was essential to remove the dirt from the coal before taking it up to the surface.
