HRS 4289 Penrhiw Hone-stone Quarry, Dolwyddelan

Honestone is the name given to a "bedded fine-grained tuff" (lithified volcanic ash from the Ordovician period. It was used locally for edging scythes and knives, & sent to England for use in sharpening cut-throat razors and edged-tools of various kinds. NGR Quarry tip SH 72296 354048
