Radcliffe was a town of many industries. On the banks of the River Irwell on the south-west side of Radcliffe Bridge was Taylors Jam Works, later changing its role becoming Pinnington, Dawson and Wood, a chemical works. There was always seemed to be an acrid smell of acetic acid lingering in the air. Looking through the gate you could see carboys of acid. KH Photo 1967
