Caine's brewery was founded in 1858 by Robert Cain a young Irish immigrant. He seized an opportunity to brew beer to the then rising number of sailors and others arriving in the growing city of Liverpool. The famous landmark Tower was built in 1887, the year of Queen Victoria's Jubilee.
Caine's had over 200 public houses but times of change were at hand and in 1921 it merged with Peter Walker & Son, and then later Higson's. Since then it has had a variety of owners including foreign owners with varying degrees of financial success. Robert Caine died in 1907 leaving a legacy and reputation for "Superior Ales and Stouts".
