Rope was an important part of everyday life. Mansley's rope works in Leigh supplied rope and twine to numerous industries, in particular they produced special rope for the rope-drives between mill engine flywheels and the line-shafting. Another product they specialised in was tow-ropes for canals and motor vehicles.The photos were taken in the early 1980s.
