HRS 1192 Radcliffe, Mount Sion waterwheel looking south

A waterwheel-powered pump lifted water from a leat into a nearby storage reservoir. The unusual machine was a hybrid of components from both water power and steam power.

Additional note: The cliff across the river Irwell is of some interest. It shows the classic signs of limited glaciation, the river goes on from Mount Sion down the Irwell Gorge generally regarded as a large glacial overflow channel. KH
